For founders & the self-employed
Just founded — and now you need a website?
Your first customers come through referrals. The next ones search on Google. Here is what a first company website for freelancers, founders and small businesses really needs, what it costs — and what you can safely skip.
5.0 on GoogleReal client projects from the region
Most of our clients stood exactly where you are now: business registered, the first jobs coming in through word of mouth — and at some point someone asks for the website that doesn't exist yet. This page is the walkthrough we cover in every initial consultation. You can do all of it yourself. And if you'd rather hand it off: that is exactly what we're here for.
Understand first, build second
Before anything gets built, we clarify — free of charge — what your business actually needs. Sometimes the honest answer is: no agency yet.
Fixed price, no subscription trap
A business website costs from €2,500 with us — once, as a final amount. No contract lock-in, no monthly rent for your own site.
Findable from day one
The SEO foundation is included in the price. Your site launches in a way Google understands — instead of retrofitting it expensively later.
Technical demo
See it, don't read about it.
Our technical demo runs in the browser and shows what modern web technology can do today — hand-built, with the same technology we use in client projects. Not a client project, not a template.
Step 1: a domain and a proper email address
The first step costs almost nothing and immediately looks more credible: your own domain (your-company.com, usually €10–20 a year) and an email address on it. “info@your-company.com” wins jobs that “maxsmith83@gmail.com” loses — especially with business clients.
Before registering, briefly check that the name is free and doesn't collide with protected trademarks. The domain belongs to you regardless of who builds the website later — register it in your own name, not an agency's.
Step 2: the legal must-haves — imprint and privacy policy
Every business website in Germany needs an imprint (Impressum) and a privacy policy — even the smallest one. Free online generators get you there in half an hour; what matters is that name, address and contact details are correct and the policy matches what the site actually does.
Tracking and non-essential cookies need consent before they run. The simplest solution at the start: no tracking at all. A new website doesn't need cookie-banner acrobatics — it needs visitors.
Step 3: what belongs on a first website — and what doesn't
What belongs: what you offer, where you offer it, roughly what it costs, and how to reach you — phone number visible, not buried. Plus real photos of you and your work instead of stock images: whoever is looking for a tradesperson or consultant wants to see who they'll be dealing with.
What doesn't belong: a blog you have no time for, twenty subpages, and copy about “philosophy” and “vision”. A good first website has three to five pages and answers the questions a customer has before calling. Nothing more.
Step 4: the Google Business Profile — the free lever
Before you put a single euro into ads: set up your Google Business Profile. It's free, takes an evening, and decides whether you appear in the map results when someone searches “your service + your town”. That is where a large share of local clicks happen.
Add opening hours, services and photos, and ask your first happy customers for a review. Five real reviews beat any ad. Website and profile should reference each other — that's how Google understands both belong to one business.
Creating a company website: do it yourself or have it built?
Honest answer: a site builder can be enough at the start — if you have the evenings to spare, an eye for layout, and can live with the limits. The limits show up later: loading speed, findability on Google, and the monthly rent that never ends.
Having it built pays off when your time is worth more in the business than in the site builder — and when the website is supposed to bring customers rather than merely exist. With us that means: fixed price from €2,500, online two to three weeks from commissioning — if copy and logo still have to be created, more like four to five. Imprint, privacy policy and SEO foundation are included; we take on copy and structure if none exists yet — that flows into the fixed price, which stands before the project starts.
If you're unsure where you stand: the visibility analysis for €250 shows what your customers actually search for, where you stand on Google and who gets found instead — after that you'll know whether more is even worth it.
What it costs — honestly calculated
Site builder: €10–30 a month, forever, plus your evenings. Freelancer: varies widely, often without a fixed frame. With us: from €2,500 as a fixed price that stands before the project starts — covering concept, design, implementation, legal pages and the technical SEO foundation. After that the site is yours; ongoing costs are just domain and hosting.
You can grow later: ongoing SEO support is available from €850 per month, cancellable monthly — sensible only once the business can handle more enquiries. All amounts are final; as a small business under § 19 UStG we do not charge VAT — a status many founders know from their own bookkeeping.

Common questions
Do I even need a website as a founder yet?
Not always immediately. If your jobs come entirely through referrals and you're at capacity: set up the Google Business Profile first, the website can wait. But as soon as customers google you — and they do, at the latest before the first order — the website decides whether searching turns into a call.
Isn't Instagram enough for now?
Social media is rented, the website is owned. An algorithm can hide your profile and an account can get suspended — your domain can't. And: people actively searching for a service search on Google, not in a feed. Both together is ideal; if only one is possible, make it the website.
What does a first company website cost?
A site builder from about €120 a year plus your time. Agencies and freelancers vary widely — with us from €2,500 at a fixed price, as a final amount, everything included. Be sceptical of two things: offers far below that with monthly contract lock-in, and prices that are only fixed after the project.
How long does it take?
From commissioning, usually two to three weeks to launch if copy and images come together promptly — starting completely from zero, more like four to five. Your effort stays small: one conversation and a few emails.
I have neither a logo nor copy — does that still work?
Yes — for founders that's the normal case. Copy and page structure are part of the project with us — that flows into the fixed price, which stands before the project starts and is not renegotiated afterwards. A simple, clean logo can be solved for the start too — perfect branding can follow once the business is running.
Is there funding for a first website?
Depending on the federal state and timing, digitalisation programmes exist that subsidise websites — but the conditions change constantly. Don't rely on it, and don't let anyone “guarantee” you a grant. Check what currently applies in your state shortly before starting.
Can the website grow with the business?
Yes — that is exactly what a clean foundation is for. Online booking, additional service pages, a shop or ongoing SEO support can be added without rebuilding. You start small and extend when the business calls for it.
